The role of a merchandiser is of paramount importance in any factory, as they serve as a crucial link between the buyer and the factory. The ability to effectively manage the buyer is a key factor in the success of a merchandising professional. To be a good merchandiser, one must possess certain qualities that enable them to meet the requirements of the buyer in a satisfactory manner.


Outlined below are twelve essential qualities that an ideal merchandiser should possess:


1. A thorough understanding of the items being shipped, including technical sheets, order sheets, size sheets, manual guides, fashion designs, sketch-ups, payment terms and conditions, and other relevant information.


2. Knowledge of fabrics, yarns, and related subjects, including fabric type, quality, and price, yarn type, quality, and price, supplier type, and sourcing methods.


3. A clear understanding of technical matters, such as fabric and yarn consumption, costing, product measurement, product SMV, product criticality, back calculation, competitive pricing, allowance, wastage percentage, and other related factors.


4. Knowledge of production, planning, and quality control of garments and textiles, including production time, production capacity, production quality, and plan follow-up.
